ABOUT Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study

The main goals of HIAS are to:

  • provide a forum for Interdisciplinary exchange of excellent scholars, scientists and artists of different disciplines, at different career stages and with different cultural backgrounds;
  • facilitate networking locally, regionally and globally;
  • provide a platform for postdoc scholarships from Hamburg research Institutions;
  • build Bridges between science, society and politics.

HIAS scholarship program is aimed at outstanding scientists at all career levels (minimum requirement: doctorate) as well as artists and cultural workers. HIAS appoints domestic and foreign guest researchers (fellows) to carry out self-selected research projects in Hamburg. HIAS seeks to compose a group of fellows that, in respect to its members` academic or artistic disciplines, countries of origin and career stages, is as diverse and stimulating as possible. HIAS accepts fellowship applications of three to ten months` duration.
